Belinda Leung uses a range of shapes throughout her work. Whilst few are angular, circles and curvature is mainly used to make up the clothing and features of the character.

Leung uses a fair amount of lines to create tonal work to enhance the dimensions of the character. For instance, the use of single lines that follow the direction of the neck help to indicate that it is most likely a smooth running surface. The darker tones featured on the cheekbones accentuate their depth and in turn, adds dimension to her face.

Whilst there are bolder outlines in most areas, there are also spaces in which an outline isn’t prominently established – leaving the shading and tone to create the shapes and three-dimensional effect.

The cloud-like shape positioned behind the character’s head is textured with bold cross-hatching that sis visibly layered to express the curvature of the shape. The use of gaps in this part of the tonal work allows the idea that this part is more free-flowing with minimal constraints that are outlines.
